Why baked goods instead of flowers

Flowers are a genuine expression of care. They're also something the family has to find a vase for, fill with water, tend for a few days, and eventually throw away. In a house full of arriving relatives and logistical decisions, that small task is one more thing.

Baked goods don't ask anything of the recipient. A basket of individually wrapped cookies or a box of fresh-baked pastries goes onto the counter or the kitchen table and stays there. People reach for it when they walk through. It gets finished over several days, quietly and without ceremony. Nobody has to serve it or plate it or remember to water it.

That's the functional case, and it's the honest one. A bakery basket on a sympathy table is useful in a way that a flower arrangement isn't, and the family will feel that difference before they think to name it.

Will it arrive fresh, and what if no one's home?

This is the right question to ask before ordering a perishable gift, and it deserves a plain answer. Most baked goods in these baskets stay fresh for three to five days at room temperature when kept in their packaging. Cookies and shortbread hold the longest. Items with fresh fruit fillings or cream are the exception. If no one is home when it arrives, a sealed bakery basket on a porch for a few hours is generally fine. Expedited shipping is available if timing is tight. Overnight delivery is available for next-morning arrival.

How much to send

Serving count matters more than price when you're choosing a bakery gift for a sympathy occasion. Here's a rough guide.

A single household, two to four people: a petite cookie assortment or a small baked goods box. Something that gets finished over two or three days without pressure. The $40–$60 range covers this well.

A household with steady visitors over several days: A larger basket or tower, enough to put out and replenish. Aim for something that serves eight to twelve people. The $60–$100 range is right here.

Do you have kosher, nut-free, or gluten-free options?

Yes to all three. Kosher-certified and nut-free options are available within this collection; look for those designations on the product pages. For gluten-free, order from the gluten-free gift basket collection. If you need to confirm certification details before ordering, call 603-606-5269.

What should I write on the card?

Keep it short. "I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm thinking of you and your family." That's enough. If you knew the person who died, you can add something specific about them. If you didn't, speak to the person grieving. You don't need to explain the gift or account for it. The basket is already saying something; the note just needs to say you're there.
