Season Popcorn With These Popular Potato Chip Flavors!

Season Popcorn With These Popular Potato Chip Flavors!

Do you have a favorite flavor of potato chips? If so, it will taste just as good on popcorn! According to a survey from 2014, the most popular chip flavors (besides plain) are barbecue, sour cream and onion, and cheese. Other flavors, such as salt and vinegar, are also popular. All you need to do is start with unseasoned popcorn that has been popped using a pan, the microwave, or an air popper. Then, choose your favorite seasoning and enjoy! Here are some ideas:

Barbecue

Do you love barbecue potato chips? Barbecue popcorn tastes just as good! If you happen to have a favorite barbecue-seasoning rub in your spice cabinet, you can always use that. However, making your own will allow you to customize the flavors a little bit. If you like a little heat in your barbecue blends, try adding a dash of cayenne pepper or chipotle powder to your barbecue mix before sprinkling it on your popcorn.

Sour Cream and Onion

If sour cream and onion potato chips are your favorite, you’ll love popcorn that features this popular seasoning! If you can’t find premade sour cream and onion popcorn seasoning, you can always make your own. This recipe calls for powdered buttermilk, dill, Parmesan cheese, onion powder, and garlic powder. However, Parmesan cheese often has trouble sticking to the popcorn kernels. You may want to purchase special powdered cheese, which is designed for sprinkling on popcorn.

Cheese

Cheese is another yummy potato chip flavor! It is also one of the most popular flavors of popcorn. You can either sprinkle powdered cheese on popped popcorn, or take things a step further and use your favorite melted cheese. You can use any cheese that you want, including grated Parmesan cheese, grated Romano cheese, and powdered cheddar cheese. This recipe uses cheddar cheese, mustard powder, and cayenne pepper. Onion powder also tastes great with cheese seasoning blends.

Salt and Vinegar

Even though salt and vinegar doesn’t always make the top lists of popular flavors for potato chips, the seasoning does have quite a few devoted fans! As it turns out, salt and vinegar is also a winning combination for popcorn. This recipe uses air popped popcorn, white balsamic vinegar, salt, and dill. If you don’t want to follow a recipe, you can simply sprinkle whatever vinegar and salt you have on hand on the popcorn. Be careful not to add too much vinegar – a little bit really does go a long way! Since this popcorn uses wet ingredients, you may want to use the style referred to as “mushroom popcorn,” which is a bit sturdier than other varieties and won’t get soggy.
