St. Boniface spring water is part of what gives the beer brewed in the Ventnor Brewery, its distinctive taste. A ferryboat carries visitors from the mainland, across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, home of Ventnor Brewery. Though Ventnor Brewery has been run by a pair of brothers since 2001, beer has been brewed on that land since 1840. The brewery's history has been a tumultuous one. After suffering damage during the second World War, it was rebuilt and for years passed through many owners hands. The brewery experienced another rebirth in 1995 when a group purchased it and refurbished its buildings. Today, current brewers Xavier and Airon Baker, are creating award winning beers and ales at the Ventnor Brewery that are famous throughout the country. They are passionate about beer making and their customers appreciate it.


Whatever your taste preferences, chances are there is a beer brewed at the Ventnor Brewery that will appeal to you. The next inventive ale is Sandrock Smoked Ale. This drink is described as a great addition to a meal of fine foods. Oyster Stout is another type of beer created at Ventnor Brewery. Real oysters are blended into the brew to produce a one-of-a-kind taste. Now, if you pick up a beer called Wight Spirit at Ventnor Brewery, you may experience a shiver or two along with the feeling of refreshment. That's because there is ghost story behind the beer that is aptly named Wight Spirit. People have reported seeing an unknown man, dressed in clothes belonging to a bygone era, in an upper window of the Ventnor Brewery. Also, some have said they've heard his whistle echo through the rooms there. Many theories have been put forth on who this wandering spirit is, but no one is sure.
