The Ventnor Brewery
Across from the mainland, on the southern coast of the Isle of Wight,
natural spring water gushes from St. Boniface Down. St. Boniface spring water is part of what gives the beer brewed in the Ventnor Brewery, its distinctive taste. Here is a collection of information about this flourishing brewery, its history, and the unique beers that are created there.
A ferryboat carries visitors from the mainland, across the Solent to
the Isle of Wight, home of Ventnor Brewery. Though Ventnor Brewery has
been run by a pair of brothers since 2001, beer has been brewed on that
land since 1840. The brewery's history has been a tumultuous one. After
suffering damage during the second World War, it was rebuilt and for
years passed through many owners hands. The brewery experienced another rebirth in 1995 when a group purchased it and refurbished its buildings. Today, current brewers Xavier and Airon
Baker, are creating award winning beers and ales at the Ventnor Brewery
that are famous throughout the country. They are passionate about beer
making and their customers appreciate it.
Whatever your taste preferences, chances are there is a beer brewed at
the Ventnor Brewery that will appeal to you. The next inventive ale is Sandrock
Smoked Ale. This drink is described as a great addition to a meal of
fine foods. Oyster Stout is another type of beer created at Ventnor
Brewery. Real oysters are blended into the brew to produce a
one-of-a-kind taste. Now, if you pick up a beer called Wight Spirit at
Ventnor Brewery, you may experience a shiver or two along with the
feeling of refreshment. That's because there is ghost story behind the
beer that is aptly named Wight Spirit. People have reported seeing an
unknown man, dressed in clothes belonging to a bygone era, in an upper
window of the Ventnor Brewery. Also, some have said they've heard his
whistle echo through the rooms there. Many theories have been put forth
on who this wandering spirit is, but no one is sure.
No trip to the beautiful Isle of Wight is complete without a sampling of
the inventive selection that the Ventnor Brewery has to offer.
