Here’s One for the Records: World’s Largest Cup of Coffee

My friend Anne will not drink coffee or tea from a cup or even a decently sized mug. So everyone in my book group has a special “Anne cup.” In my home, it’s a speckled blue and white sponge-painted number I made especially for her in one of the Make Your Own Pottery-type places that have sprung up for the glazing pleasures of kids of all ages.

World’s Largest Cup of Coffee

That giant mug is nothing, a mere thimble of a vessel compared to the jumbo giant 2010-gallon mug that will soon – if things go right on Friday, October 15 – GourmetGiftBaskets.com will try to break a Guinness World Record for World’s Largest Cup of Coffee. Well, as fresh as a cup of coffee that will take four or five hours to brew at about 250 gallons per hour can be!

Break The Record

The endeavor if successful (which it will be), will more than double the current world record of 911.5 gallons set in 2007. Breaking the record is the brainchild of GourmetGiftBaskets.com’s founder and CEO, Ryan Abood, who has a penchant for breaking records in a very big way. Last year the company broke the Guinness World Record by baking the world’s largest cupcake. Last year, the cupcake, this year the cup. Next year? Maybe the biggest bowl of pasta, guacamole (hmmm, how to keep it from turning brown?), or cotton candy cone. Who knows?

Breaking Records is About Achievement

For Ryan, breaking records is about achievement, something he wants his employees to enjoy both in the workplace and outside it. It’s also about fun, an important part of the culture at GourmetGiftBaskets.com if you think starting the day at 4 a.m. is fun! Hopefully, employees and participating vendors – it does take a village to brew more than 2000 gallons of coffee fast enough to serve by noon – will have the help of a few regular-sized cups of super-caffeinated coffee of their own. Set-up is at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, South Pacific Ballroom; Booth #335.

Record-Breaking Cup of Coffee

The record-breaking cup of coffee will be an eight-foot by eight-foot storage tank around which a coffee cup with a handle will be constructed of sculpted foam with a polyurethane finish. It will be filled with just-brewed 100-percent Arabica blend coffee dispensed specially designed high-volume dispensers. Dark, light, or sweetened, the best part of breaking the Guinness World Record with the world’s largest-ever cup of coffee will be the donation. We will donate the money raised to Susan G. Komen’s Passionately Pink for the Cure, a fundraising program created by Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This organization inspires breast cancer advocacy and honors those affected by the disease.
