Just like Halloween costumes, all candies aren’t created equally. There are certain sweets that basically exist for the sole purpose of trading up and others that are coveted by children of all ages. So, to help your neighborhood’s trick-or-treaters enjoy this Halloween (and to prevent your house from getting toilet papered), make sure to hand out these top 10 candies:

10. Kit-Kats

These oxymoronic sweets of smooth chocolate and crunchy wafer biscuits offer something unique in the candy world: perfectly portioned sharability.

9. Nerds

It doesn’t take a genius to understand that the word “nerd” basically means “awesome.” Superman’s alter-ego? Dork-a-licious Clark Kent. Hermione Granger? Totally dweebie and totally fantastic. Thus, contrary to what you may think about these tiny, tangy crunchy candies given their name at first glance, they’re completely wonderful.

8. Twix

The right one or the left one? Guess what, guys, it doesn’t freaking matter. They’re equally great because they’re exactly the same thing: delicious.

7. Pop Rocks

Even their name implies that they rule, so if you’re thinking they belong in a 1970s time capsule, you’re just flat out wrong. Pop Rocks are more than just a simple candy – they’re an experience! They’re fun to play with, make great science experiments, and, well, kids love them.

6. Skittles

Skittles are fruity and chewy and bright and apparently taste like colors of the rainbow. In other words, Skittles are love. And trick-or-treat bags across the country would be a little duller without their presence.

5. Starburst

Depending on what flavors you get, these fruit chews can go up and down on the top 10 list, which is why they’re sitting pretty at #5. Cherry and strawberry two-packs are solid wins for sure, while getting stuck with lemon and orange is supremely unlucky.

4. Sour Patch Kids

After eating an entire bag, your mouth feels like it’s survived a car accident, yet people still love these bright candies – so you know they’ve got to be good. Really, they’re the only Halloween treat that’s super sour and surprisingly sweet at the same time and they’re cute to boot.

3. Snickers

These bars tend to get forgotten in the race to find the best candy, but we’re not about to leave them behind. Snickers just so happen to be probably the most complex treat on this list, consisting of nougat that’s topped with gooey caramel that’s topped with peanuts that’s smothered in milk chocolate, and we think that’s pretty spectacular.

2. Peanut M&Ms

Loads of people disagree about which M&M flavors are the best, but we know that deep down we all find common ground with this one – the most irresistible of all – the sweet and salty candy of all candies: Peanut M&Ms.

1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins

Sure, the regular Peanut Butter Cups are nothing short of sublime, so they’d be on this list anyway, but it’s really important to point out that the seasonal versions of the treat is where Reese’s really ups their game. At Halloween (and Easter) the classic cup steps aside to make way for pumpkin (and egg) shaped treats. The best part? These unconventional shapes allow for a greater peanut butter-to-choco ratio that no one can resist.
