The Best Wine Gifts for Easter

The Best Wine Gifts for Easter

One thing I love about Easter is giving gifts! I do love giving traditional gifts like candy and Easter baskets. However, I also enjoy giving wine, especially to my wine-loving friends. Here are some ideas for giving the right wine as an Easter gift.

Wine of the Month Club

A fun wine gift is to give a membership to a wine of the month club. These clubs deliver specially selected bottles to your home every month. If you don’t have the money to spend on a full year, a few months still makes for a very nice gift. After the time is up, the recipient has the option of continuing the membership on their own.

Easter Hostess Gift

Whenever I’m invited to someone’s house for Easter, I love to bring wine. It makes a perfect hostess gift! I try to find out what’s being served for dinner, and then I choose a wine that goes perfectly with the meal. I like to bring at least two bottles – one white selection and one red. Here’s a list of some of the common foods served at Easter and wine pairings that go well with them:

Ham – The light, smoky flavors of the ham make it pair especially well with slightly sweet, slightly acidic white wines such as Riesling and Gewurtztraminer. For red wine, I’d choose a light table wine, such as a Beaujolais Nouveau.

Lamb – For people who celebrate Greek Easter, lamb is a staple. However, because lamb is popular during the spring, it makes its way onto many Easter tables. Both Shiraz and Pinot Noir pair especially well with lamb. White wine isn’t the best pairing for lamb but if you must, choose a Chardonnay that’s on the tannic side.

Roast – The best wines for a beef roast include Pinot Noir and Merlot for reds, and Pinot Grigio for white. If it’s a pork roast, a Bordeaux from France makes a nice choice for red wine, and Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc is a great white wine choice.

If the hostess chooses not to serve the wine you brought, don’t be offended. You’re simply pairing them with dinner in case she does open them while guests are at her house.

Wine Gift Basket

Baskets have always been associated with Easter and they’ve been a part of spring celebrations since pagan times. Back then, baskets were typically filled with eggs as an offering to the goddess Eostre. This year, why not give the wine lover on your Easter gift list a wine-themed basket? Here are some ideas:

Party basket – These baskets usually contain wine and various gourmet foods that go well with the wines that were selected. Basically, it’s everything that you will need to have a wine party!

Wine supplies – Most wine drinkers don’t know which gadgets they need until they see them. These baskets usually contain a bottle or two of wine, a high-quality cork, and a special ice bucket for wine.

Chocolate and wine – Wine and chocolate go very well together. These baskets include several kinds of chocolates, plus the wines that best accompany them.

Premade wine baskets Sometimes it’s more convenient to have your Easter wine gifts delivered. GourmetGiftBaskets.com has a fabulous wine gifts selection.

If you don’t have time to put together your own wine gift baskets, you can always buy them!
