5 Delicious Sangria Recipes

When the weather gets warm, it’s time to reach for the sangria! Common in Spain and Portugal during the warm summer months, this tasty cocktail has taken the world by storm. It was introduced to the United States during the 1964 World’s Fair and since then, people have been crafting their own delicious spins on the original recipe. There are so many delicious Sangria recipes it may be hard to choose just one! Here are some of our favorite and delicious Sangria recipes:

Classic Sangria

Traditional sangria recipes use red wine, citrus fruits, sugar, and plenty of ice. Some of them are also spiked with a little bit of brandy. This recipe uses the original formula, but uses a bit of club soda to give it a slight fizz. If you want to stick with the citrus theme, feel free to omit the apples or substitute them for grapefruits. Garnish each glass with a fresh orange slice.

White Peach Sangria

This white peach sangria recipe uses a Spanish white table wine and uses peach and pineapple for its fruity flavor. For a little bit of a citrus taste it’s spiked with triple sec, which is made from oranges, instead of the traditional brandy. Feel free to use any white wine that you like. Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent choice for this type of sangria because it often has a bit of a fruity note to it. You can use Rosé or White Zinfandel wines, as well. White Zinfandel is especially good when blended with peaches.

Prosecco Sangria

This sangria recipe uses Prosecco, a sparkling wine from Italy, instead of white or red wine and stone fruits such as apricots, nectarines and peaches, which have flavors that perfectly compliment the Prosecco. This particular recipe uses peach brandy but if you would prefer, you could use regular brandy instead.

Pineapple-Coconut Sangria

Anytime you mix pineapple and coconut flavors together, it’s a winner! This sangria recipe is spiked with coconut rum, which gives it a coconut flavor without overpowering the wine. Basically, this is a twist on the traditional piña colada cocktail that’s so popular in the summer, minus the coconut milk. A generous squeeze of fresh lime juice gives it a hint of citrus. Garnish this one with chunks of pineapple or fresh lime.

Lambrusco Sangria

Lambrusco is a sweet red wine that has a hint of effervescence. It is absolutely perfect with sangria! To make this sangria, you can follow any classic sangria recipe that you want and then substitute white or red Lambrusco for the red wine. Be sure that the recipe doesn’t use club soda or anything with carbonation. If it does, you definitely want to omit it or choose another recipe. You don’t want the fizz to overpower the rest of the flavors!
