In New York, Halloween day was sunny and brisk. If I had weather control, I would have slowed down the wind a tad. As usual, I spent a fortune on goodies to contribute to the national sugar high – just in case the Power Rangers and princesses descended – and as usual, no kids came. Well, maybe the usual handful did, but I was called away to help with the Halloween chaos some miles away at my daughter’s house.

Just barely past Halloween, weeks to go before Thanksgiving, and the holidays are already knocking at the door. At my daughter’s house the door was opened early, and in walked Mack who might be – no bias here – the softest, mushiest, most adorable Papillon-Pekingese mix East of the Mississippi.

Getting to the Core of the Matter

I counted nine different apple varieties at a nearby greengrocer today. Sunday it took me 30 minutes to travel three blocks because I got caught up in Apple Festival traffic! And, purely randomly, when I asked my friend Jim to send a photo of his daughter so I could see her all grown up, he sent one of her in front of the country’s biggest apple basket.
