The other day in a cleaning frenzy of the kind that does not often consume me, I found a trove of forgotten photographs in the back of the linen closet behind a tangle of no-longer-used sheets. Plopping down to the floor with them, I held them, one by one in my hand – some for a long time – as I sat on the floor.

Bring On The Sun

Legend has it that the Inuit have 400 words for “snow,” but that is merely legend. According to Karyn Tasens, president and CEO of Translation Aces, they have no more words for the white crystals than do speakers of English. Counting generously, linguist Steven Pinker experts can come up with about a dozen, a number weather forecasters are expanding with new terms ranging from “wintry mix” to “snow event.”

Punch in on New Year’s Eve

If it’s January 1, I am at the home of my friends Anne and Keith. Every year the same cast and crew, more or less, gathers in their kitchen, den, dining room, basement, living room to eat (too much), drink (a lot) and share the first day of the new year. Our common thread is that we are all friends and colleagues of Anne and Keith, but the party has become a “same time, next year” event where it is really nice to spend time even with those people you do not see between times.

There’s Sylvester Stallone’s son, Sage Moonblood, actor Jason Lee’s son Pilot Inspektor, singer songwriter Bob Geldof’s daughter Fifi Trixibelle, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s son Buddy Bear, and rapper T-Pain’s son Kaydnz Kodah to toss off a few.
